Wisconsin Lutheran College Launches New Program

WLC to Offer a Master of Science in Sport and Recreation Management

Milwaukee, WI (03/28/2023) — Wisconsin Lutheran College (WLC) is pleased to announce that it has been approved by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) to launch a new Master of Science degree in Sport and Recreation Management. The HLC's Institutional Actions Council took approval action on the new degree program at its February 28, 2023, meeting. The HLC is the college's regional accrediting body.

The college also announces that Jeremiah Hoffmann will serve as Program Director for the new degree offering. Hoffmann brings a wealth of coaching, instruction, advising, and professional experience to the role. He most recently served as the Women's Golf Coach at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and as the Athletic Director on their Fond du Lac campus. Hoffmann earned a Master of Sports Administration degree from Ohio University, and he is well-versed in the areas of sports management, budgeting, event management, facility management, sports leadership, and sports governance.

WLC's Sport and Recreation Management master's degree, with emphases in Sports Management and Sports Coaching, is designed to meet the continued education desires of students in the college's undergraduate Sports Management major and individuals in southeastern Wisconsin who desire a graduate-level Sport and Recreation Management degree from a renowned Christian college. The program will provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the sports industry, including sports marketing, event planning, and facility management. Students will also learn about the social and cultural impact of sports, as well as the ethical and legal considerations that are essential in the sports industry. The program will combine theoretical coursework with practical applications to prepare students for leadership roles in the sports industry.

We believe that this program will prepare our graduates to make a meaningful impact in the Milwaukee sports industry and beyond."

The Sport and Recreation Management degree at Wisconsin Lutheran College will be led by experienced faculty members who are experts in their respective fields. The program will be delivered in an online format with campus residencies, allowing students to balance their academic studies with their professional lives and other commitments. The program also serves as a natural extension of the college's existing Bachelor of Arts in Sports Management degree.
